Dr. William R. Jacyk, MD, FRCPC
Internal Medicine and Addiction Specialist
Dr. Jacyk is currently a Staff Physician in Addictions and Specialized Psychiatry at the Homewood Health Centre. His extensive work in the Post Traumatic Stress Recovery
Program as well as the Concurrent Disorders for Older Adults and Concurrent Trauma and Addiction Programs has proven to be a great asset to the Homewood Health Centre.
A graduate in Medicine from the University of Manitoba in 1964, Dr. Jacyk specialized in Internal Medicine. He has since taught at St. Lucia, Moorhead State University and the University of Manitoba. In 1997, he retired from the University of Manitoba Medical Faculty (GFT) after a remarkable 27 years of service.
Dr, Jacyk is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; former President and Member of the Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine; Member of the Canadian Medical Association and the Canadian Medical Protective association; and Chairman of the Board of the Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness.
Dr. Jacyk has been involved extensively in the research and treatment of seniors with substance use disorders through the Elders Health Program in Manitoba. He is also the Founder of the Centre For Substance Use Management (CESUM), which is a not-for-profit organization developed as a centre for the research, education and treatment of substance use disorders among specific risk populations, such as seniors and health care providers.
Dr. Jacyk has also worked with Health Canada, serving on the Working Committee as a coauthor for a manual published in 1992, entitled "Addiction Treatment Guidelines." Additionally, he assisted in Health Canada's development of the Inter-professional Faculty Training Program, designed for the advancement of alcohol, drug abuse and addiction education in Universities.
Dr. Jacyk is a founding partner of Prodigal Community Services. Cardinal Counselling and Mediation is delighted to have the opportunity to work together with Prodigal Community Services to offer the Alcohol and Drug Day Treatment Program and Nicotine Cessation Program.
